Coventry, Coventry, United Kingdom Coventry City Council Full time

Position Overview:

We are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to support young learners with special educational needs within our educational framework. Our institution focuses on providing specialized SEMH education for students from early years through to the end of Key Stage 4. The role may involve working in either primary or secondary settings, tailored to the needs of the school and the qualifications of the selected candidates.

As a member of our committed learning support team, you will collaborate closely with educators and students to deliver personalized assistance. Your responsibilities will include supporting our effective pastoral team alongside classroom duties. The ideal candidate will exhibit flexibility, versatility, and a nurturing disposition, capable of engaging with both entire classes and individual students.

Familiarity with the 'Thrive' approach, which informs our practices, is advantageous, as is an empathetic attitude and a willingness to comprehend the motivations behind specific behaviors.

Candidate Profile:

The successful applicant will be expected to work autonomously with small groups, preparing and planning activities accordingly. Patience and strong behavior management skills, or the potential to cultivate these skills, are essential. A genuine passion for assisting young individuals and addressing their learning challenges is crucial. All students we support have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), with many presenting primary needs related to SEMH, and a significant portion diagnosed with ASD and ADHD.

We prioritize professional development for our staff, and this position may serve as a pathway toward qualified teacher status or Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) roles, offering recognized career advancement opportunities. If you are resilient and committed to enhancing the social, emotional, and mental well-being of young people, we encourage you to consider this opportunity. Part-time candidates are welcome to apply.

Working Hours: 35 hours per week, 39 weeks per year.

Our institution is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, expecting all staff and volunteers to uphold this commitment. The successful candidate will undergo an enhanced criminal record check.
