About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Cloud Systems Engineer to join our team at Leonardo, a leading aerospace company. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and supporting a variety of cyber security and ICT products and solutions for defence, government, and public sector organizations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a small specialized engineering team responsible for multiple active projects and bids, covering cyber security research tasks, digital platform development, and security monitoring and incident response solutions.
  • Develop and implement systems engineering lifecycle from Concept Exploration through to In-Service Support, including requirements management, system architecture and design, subsystem design and development, system integration, test and acceptance, and specialist technical support.
  • Work in the platform team to support larger project teams on the design, development, testing, and support of platform capabilities, including Information Management Systems, Command and Control systems, Security Monitoring of IT, IoT, and CNI systems and services.
  • Take ownership and implement the engineering delivery of one or more work packages, including planning, estimation, execution, and progress reporting of own workload and that of other team members.
Requirements
  • Demonstrable experience in support of 1 of the leading Cloud technologies.
  • Core Linux/Windows and network infrastructure engineering experience, including cloud networks, storage, and database systems.
  • Good knowledge of some PaaS technologies.
  • Building Git and CI/CD based release pipelines.
  • Good document writing skills to support system documentation and report writing ability to manage workload for themselves and associated teams in pressurized environments to Time, Quality, and Standards.
  • The ability to travel in mainland UK when requested by Business Unit Lead.
  • Ability to share knowledge and mentor junior members of the team if required.
Desirable Skills
  • Noticeable experience focused on AWS engineering, including proven live production environment projects.
  • Strong infrastructure as code (CloudFormation) and scripting-based cloud automation experience.
  • Experience organizational transformation from traditional services to AWS.
  • Good understanding of a majority of the following AWS technologies: Core IaaS – compute, storage, networking, hybrid.
  • Exposure to AWS SaaS offerings.
  • Identity, authentication, and security (IAM, Active Directory, ADFS, network security, RBAC, and related technologies).
  • Any AWS qualifications – Desired.
  • Deployment and implementation experience of enterprise Microsoft solutions.
  • Proven track record of specializing in Microsoft Azure technologies and, ideally, working for an IT services or consulting organization.
  • Experience organizational transformation from traditional services to Azure.
  • Good understanding of a majority of the following Azure technologies: Core IaaS – compute, storage, networking, hybrid.
  • Exposure to Azure SaaS offerings.
  • Identity, authentication, and security (Active Directory, ADFS, network security, RBAC, and related technologies).
  • Any Microsoft Azure qualifications – Desired.
