About the Innovative Science and Technology Division:

The Innovative Science and Technology Division is dedicated to pursuing and establishing strategic advantages in prioritized scientific and technological applications to drive growth in key strategic sectors. This enables our brands and business units to secure future leadership roles through deep human insight and distinctive, reliable scientific methods. The division translates new methodologies learned from developing strategic science and technology into new capabilities for research and development.

The Naturals & Green Science H3 Platform is focused on creating a comprehensive roadmap for emerging science and technology in the naturals and green science sectors. This involves identifying, partnering, and mitigating risks associated with early-stage relevant science and technology from around the world, targeting areas such as systemic inflammation, advanced cellular aging, gut and mental health, and mobility.

The Principal Scientist role in Naturals Science entails:
  • Managing the portfolio of scientific and technological partnerships for Horizon 3 Naturals & Green Science.
  • Developing strategies to engage and advocate for evolving intellectual property, regulatory, and medical landscapes.
  • Establishing and guiding reliable scientific approaches in Horizon 3 Naturals & Green Science for new active pharmaceutical ingredient solutions that could integrate with category and business unit opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and oversee the Horizon 3 new naturals and green science technology roadmap: define the strategy for Haleon in the specified domain, manage the Technology Product Roadmap (from technology to consumer), and deliver prioritized components within the roadmap, including intellectual property leadership and strategy.
  • Build and manage the enabling ecosystem for H3 new naturals and green science: cultivate and oversee the external ecosystem for the defined domain, lead external leverage and technology acquisition strategies, and foster innovation partnerships with suppliers.
  • Lead industry consortia and develop advocacy plans for unregulated sectors: facilitate consortium access for innovative industry solutions, create new financial mechanisms for accessing new technology solutions (both internal and external), and devise new approaches for engaging advocacy in unregulated areas.
  • Develop new capabilities: identify and establish future-proof capabilities to support Haleon's future in natural and green science, balancing internal versus external, physical versus digital, and micro-lab to pilot scale-up planning.
  • Thought leadership: be recognized externally as a leading voice in new naturals and green science, with a clear influence strategy (including regulatory and medical advocacy strategies, healthcare professional networks, etc.).
  • Facilitate knowledge exchange and collaboration within the H3 naturals and green science platform, as well as more broadly across the Innovative Science and Technology Division.
  • Actively promote networking and partnership initiatives with categories and business units.
  • Establish a network of functional experts within the broader consumer health research and development organization (e.g., Innovative Science and Technology, Innovation Research, Category/Business Unit R&D Leads, etc.) to support H3 naturals and green science initiatives.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, or Biological Science.
  • A degree in Herbal Medicines, Ayurveda, or traditional Asian Medicines is advantageous.
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) or healthcare sectors.
  • Scientific research experience in extraction, standardization, characterization, authentication, mode of action, and clinical and pre-clinical studies of herbal ingredients or products.
  • Global experience in consumer science and product research (including qualitative and quantitative research, consumer modeling, upstream consumer need definition, and downstream product validation and claims substantiation).
  • Expertise in behavioral science, habit understanding, and new habit formation.
  • Proficiency in developing innovative methodologies.
  • Strong analytical skills, including strategic thinking, leadership, communication, and influencing abilities, with a capacity to lead change.
