Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Decontamination and Cleaning: Decontaminate and clean surgical instruments and equipment to the highest standards of quality and safety.
  • Instrument Inspection: Inspect instruments for damage, cleanliness, and functionality to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Instrument Assembly and Packaging: Assemble and package instrument trays and sets according to established protocols and procedures.
  • Sterilization Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain sterilization equipment, including autoclaves, to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Process Monitoring and Documentation: Monitor and document sterilization processes to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Inventory Management: Manage inventory of sterile supplies and order replacements as needed to maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Infection Control and Safety: Follow infection control and safety procedures to prevent the spread of infection and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with surgical and medical staff to ensure timely availability of sterile instruments and communicate effectively to resolve any issues or concerns.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of sterilization activities to ensure compliance and accountability.

Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification: Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician (e.g. CRCST or CBSPD) is preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience in sterile processing or a related field is an asset.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of sterilization techniques, equipment, and infection control standards. Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies as needed.
