Position: Operations Engineer
Location: Newcastle

A Glimpse of Your Role

The Operations Engineer is tasked with the continuous oversight, management, and regulation of project assets around the clock (Shift Work). This position necessitates a robust engineering and technical foundation aimed at ensuring the safe and dependable functioning of plant and equipment to fulfill the operational and commercial needs of the Client. Flexibility is essential, as the role may involve remote control room and project site responsibilities to align with business demands.

Your Impact
  • Oversee and manage plant operations continuously, including plant shutdowns and startups, responding to alarms with timely and appropriate actions, managing BOA activities, and adhering to Customer (TNO/DNO/IND/Developers) directives while maintaining the Daily Operational Log.
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations, executing all tasks in accordance with relevant codes and standards.
  • Maintain plant availability and adherence to Operations & Maintenance (O&M) procedures, work plans, and engineering protocols.
  • Implement plant shutdown and startup protocols within designated timeframes, ensuring the plant meets its generation targets while operating safely and efficiently.
  • Follow established processes and procedures to facilitate effective plant operations, utilizing technical documentation and schematics.
  • Guarantee that the plant consistently meets its generation objectives while operating in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Employ computerized Plant Management Systems (e.g., WebBFS/Ultimo/JIRA) for Shift Logs, Fault Notifications, Work Orders, and Parts Requisitions.
  • Collaborate with customers and external stakeholders regarding power and gas supply and distribution.
  • Respond to routine and safety instructions from Customers (TNO/DNO/IND/Developers) and Traders.
  • Submit REMIT, EDL & EDT data to accurately represent technical availability and ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Conduct modifications to Control System logic and implement simulations to uphold plant safety and reliability, adhering to the company's Integrated Business Management System (IBMS) and quality standards.
  • Assist in the development and continuous improvement of operational excellence strategies to align with Siemens Energy and client objectives.
  • Support Root Cause Analysis and Failure Mode Effects Analysis for site incidents as necessary.
  • Act as a substitute for the Operations Support Engineer in their absence.
What You Bring
  • Practical engineering and technical expertise, applying principles and procedures to ensure the safe operation and maintenance of the power station.
  • Experience in Power Generation, Heavy Industry, and Power Transmission operations.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety practices.
  • Self-driven with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Advanced problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately document and report critical plant information and status.
  • Proficient in developing and adhering to Safe Systems of Work.
Knowledge, Experience, and Qualifications
  • Preferably possess a minimum of HNC or equivalent qualification in engineering.
  • Comprehensive understanding of power plant principles, including performance, efficiency, and environmental operations.
  • At least 5 years of operational and maintenance experience, ideally within the Power Generation sector.
  • Familiarity with Health & Safety management processes.
  • Solid knowledge of roles and responsibilities as defined in safe systems of work.
  • Health and Safety qualification (NEBOSH or equivalent).
