About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional Research Associate to join our interdisciplinary team at Newcastle University. As a key member of our research group, you will contribute to a Leverhulme Trust funded project investigating emotion-like processes in bees. Your expertise in animal behaviour, particularly with insects, will be invaluable in designing and implementing experiments, evaluating behavioural data, and presenting research findings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement experiments to investigate emotion-like behaviours and cognitive biases in bees
  • Evaluate behavioural data using video recordings and statistical models
  • Present research findings at internal and external meetings, including to researchers in the humanities
  • Contribute to outreach efforts through interactions with collaborators on the project
  • Supervise junior lab members and students as necessary
Requirements
  • PhD in a scientific area involving animal behaviour
  • Excellent all-round technical skills
  • Experience researching animal behaviour, ideally with insects
  • Knowledge of statistical modelling and video data analysis
