GBR Recruitment Ltd is pleased to be working with a leading food manufacturing business, recruiting for an experienced people-focused Production Shift Manager to work on a day shift, covering Sunday to Thursday, managing a team of 6 directs and c.50-100 indirect production operatives.

The ideal candidate for this key day shift role is a production management professional with experience at Shift Manager or FLM level, who is a strong mentor, coach, and developer of others. They should be passionate about getting the best performance out of their production teams, using positive and tried methods.

The business has strong working practices and processes in place, so the key focus of this leadership role is on the company's employees. The successful candidate will focus on their well-being, personal development, and training, as well as their performance levels, hitting productivity targets and meeting quality standards required by the business and its customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Taking ownership of the production team, ensuring full compliance with daily and weekly production plans, delivering a quality food product range on time, in full, and to a costed standard.
  • Delivering world-class manufacturing standards through self-development and team development, and involvement.
  • Ensuring staffing numbers are set at an optimum level to achieve output levels to the standards required by customers.
  • Responsible for maintaining excellent Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards at all times, delivering quality standards required by customers and external audits.
  • Ensure the smooth running of the core business by liaising with department leaders to coordinate stock, production, picking, and dispatch.
  • Manage, control, and achieve set Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), such as plan attainment, cost of quality, labor cost, training, skills gap, recruitment and retention, downtime, and waste.
  • Take the lead on all things food safety.
  • Proactive and reactive day-to-day problem-solving to ensure daily production plans are met.
  • Strong focus on Supply Chain Improvement (SCI) and bottleneck management to ensure throughputs are successfully maintained at target levels.
  • Proactively suggest process improvements and Continuous Improvement (CI) to improve throughputs and efficiency.
  • Be a real people motivator, manager, trainer, and developer of production team workers, maximizing their potential and future management opportunities.
  • Be a highly positive contributor in all production meetings.
  • Carry out Return to Work (RTW) investigations and disciplinaries when needed.
  • Cross-train staff to be able to multi-task and carry out varying duties.
  • Support New Product Development (NPD) during the development of new products and New Product Introduction (NPI).

Requirements:

  • Food production or processing experience at Shift Manager, FLM, Area Manager, Section Manager, Production Manager, or Factory Manager level.
  • Chilled food sector experience.
  • Passionate mentor, coach, and motivator of others.
  • Strong in GMP, BRC audits, retailer codes, H&S, HACCP, SCI, CI, LEAN, Zero Waste, and Quality.
  • Able to lead teams of 5+ directs and c.50-100 operatives.
  • Happy to commit to a fixed Sunday to Thursday working pattern.
