Are you passionate about pursuing a career in Mechanical Engineering or seeking to enhance your education in this field? The Design Service is in search of a recent graduate in Mechanical Engineering.

The Design Service team within Richmond and Wandsworth Councils provides a variety of crucial consultancy services aimed at maintaining the Councils' building infrastructure, ensuring that facilities are functional, secure, enjoyable, and comfortable for both service users and staff.

As a Junior Mechanical Engineer, you will collaborate with the M&E Building Services team while working towards your professional qualification. You will engage with a diverse group of professionals from the Council who deliver essential services, ensuring that each day presents new challenges and opportunities. You will cultivate professional relationships and adapt to a varied client base.

About the Role

We are looking to recruit a recent graduate in mechanical engineering. This position is a fixed-term contract, with the duration dependent on the course of study undertaken. Ideally, we seek candidates who already possess a qualification or are currently enrolled in a relevant program. Applicants should have resided in the UK for a minimum of three years.

The primary objective of this role is to successfully complete a training program to obtain a relevant qualification.

Throughout your studies, you will receive mentorship from experienced members of the Design Service, while also providing support to them.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring quality assurance for ongoing projects,
  • Collaborating with clients, preparing reports, presentations, and documenting meetings.
  • As your expertise grows, you will manage your own projects with guidance from senior engineers.

  • Understanding of mechanical engineering principles and a strong commitment to this field of study or relevant experience.
  • A professional demeanor with a proactive and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines and maintaining high accuracy.
  • Robust problem-solving skills with the capacity to think creatively and adaptively.
  • Able to articulate ideas clearly and concisely in both written and verbal formats.
