Transportation Planner

As a key member of the Sonoco team, the Transportation Planner plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our logistics and supply chain functions. Reporting directly to the Logistics Operations Manager, this position is responsible for planning and scheduling transportation for specified Sonoco plants and suppliers, while also driving operational excellence through supplier management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Resolve service issues and support business units' requirements through active participation in division planning sessions.
- Plan, tender, and monitor carrier shipments via Transportation Management System (TMS) in accordance with department policy and procedure.
- Collaborate with other logistics functions to establish the right carriers and capacity on assigned lanes.
- Extract and manipulate data from the TMS or other platforms for financial analysis and develop reports from complex data sets to inform decision-making.
- Meet productivity and customer service level targets while managing carrier performance to ensure performance is at or above target Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Balance the cost/service relationship and communicate effectively with stakeholders to drive cost effectiveness through problem-solving and process improvement.
- Coordinate the resolution of service complaints through root cause analysis and develop corrective actions to prevent future service failures.
- Cross-train on other areas to support department resources as assigned by the Manager.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Finance, or a related field.
- 2-3 years of previous experience in the transportation industry or logistics, with a strong understanding of Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
- Advanced knowledge and high proficiency in PC-based applications, including Microsoft Suite.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to analyze complex data sets and develop reports.
- Above-average skills in Microsoft Suite, with experience in TMS and OTM preferred.
- Strong analytical abilities and proficiency in German and/or other European languages is a plus.
