Job Description

**Job Title:** Civil Engineering Design Manager

**Job Summary:** We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineering Design Manager to lead our design team in delivering high-quality projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the design process, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and collaborating with stakeholders to achieve project goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the design process, including surveying, coordination, submission, compliance, programming, and management of design, engineering, and assurance.
  • Lead the design team, ensuring that all design deliverables meet the required standards and are completed on time.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and other design teams, to ensure that design requirements are met.
  • Develop and implement a Design Management Plan and BIM Execution Plan to ensure that design processes are efficient and effective.
  • Manage design costs, program, risk, and opportunities, and ensure that the Engineering Change Control process is implemented.
  • Verify that project design staff, checkers, and reviewers are suitably qualified and competent to carry out their roles.
  • Ensure that design deliverables are released to the client or third parties, including Design Compliance submissions.
  • Manage design interfaces with assets and structures affected by the works.
  • Implement a systems-based approach through the management of Systems Engineering disciplines, including Requirements Management, Interfaces, Human Factors, EMC, RAM, Engineering Safety, Systems Integration, and Risk Management.
  • Develop an overarching assurance process that considers statutory, regulatory, and prudent industry best practice in managing the activities of the associated delivery.
  • Ensure that the Contractor's procedure for the control of Temporary Works is implemented in accordance with BS 5975.
  • Ensure that Permit To Loads are issued correctly and for every Temporary Works installation.
  • Ensure that all appropriate maintenance and inspection of the Temporary Works is carried out.

Requirements:

  • Experience within a similar role within an appropriately sized engineering organization.
  • Excellent organization and people management/team building skills.
  • Membership of an appropriate Professional body, typically Chartered member of Institute of Civil Engineering or an international equivalent professional status.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), management, and organizational skills.
  • Educated to degree or higher level or equivalent in a numerate discipline, typically an Engineering discipline.
  • A good working knowledge of Health & Safety Regulations, Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, and other relevant legislation.
  • Well-developed IT skills, including a working knowledge of BIM, Autocad, and the use of collaborative platforms.
  • Previous experience working in urban areas and traffic management.
  • Previous experience working for TfL/Highways.
  • Excellent understanding of systems engineering.
  • Experience of temporary works typically in a temporary works supervision role (TWS).
