Lead Concrete Specialist

Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom Sika Full time
Job Overview

As part of the Target Market Concrete division, the Concrete Technical Services team plays a crucial role in supporting the commercial sector through laboratory concrete experiments, on-site customer assistance, and effective problem resolution to ensure client satisfaction. This position is primarily field-based, working alongside a skilled team to uphold standards and meet objectives.

Role Purpose

The Lead Concrete Specialist will guarantee that all technical service operations are executed safely, precisely, and punctually, while providing proactive technical assistance to the sales teams in maintaining existing client relationships and acquiring new business. This role encompasses responsibilities for readymix, precast, and mortar clients, under the guidance of the Technical Services Manager.

Key Responsibilities

This position offers a diverse range of responsibilities, including:

  • Engaging with a leading global supplier of construction chemical admixtures, catering to readymix, precast, and mortar clients.
  • Conducting laboratory trials within Sika's concrete facilities and assisting with customer plant trials.
  • Ensuring that all activities performed by the team in both the laboratory and on-site are conducted safely.
  • Adhering to BS EN testing protocols and documenting all findings, while also contributing to product innovation and development.
  • Acquiring technical expertise in concrete and mortars, and understanding how Sika's chemical admixtures enhance the performance of cementitious materials.
  • Organizing and prioritizing workloads in alignment with departmental strategies for both yourself and the laboratory team, while collaborating with the broader technical services team.
  • Interacting directly with clients to provide guidance on product selection and performance.
  • Traveling to various sites, with potential overnight stays as required.
Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary along with an extensive benefits package. Our total rewards program includes:

  • Company vehicle
  • 25 days of annual leave, increasing to 28 days with tenure, plus public holidays
  • Pension contributions of up to 10%
  • Private health insurance for you, with the option to include family members
  • Group life insurance at six times your annual salary
  • Global income protection (PHI)
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity leave
  • Employee discount platform & Cycle to Work scheme
  • Recognition awards for significant milestones
  • Discounts on selected Sika products
Team Support

You will collaborate with the existing team across the UK, which is a diverse group committed to enhancing customer and technical support. Our personnel and teams are our most valuable asset, and we strive to ensure that every individual's contributions are recognized and valued.

A comprehensive induction plan will be provided, including one-on-one training, followed by opportunities for increased autonomy in line with personal development. We are dedicated to fostering both professional and personal growth.

Candidate Profile

We seek a proactive, technically skilled individual, ideally with a background in concrete laboratories, construction material testing, or research and development. The ideal candidate will be a quick learner with a meticulous approach, ensuring strict adherence to health and safety protocols at all times.

Career Progression

The Lead Concrete Specialist position is a full-time, permanent role. There may be opportunities for advancement within the technical department to the Technical Services Manager position. Additionally, prospects outside the technical department, such as in sales or product management, as well as international opportunities, may also be available, given Sika's global presence.

Qualifications
  • Experience in a concrete testing laboratory or related construction sectors.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, solve problems, and meet deadlines, along with strong time management and work ethic.
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices, including risk assessments and safe working protocols.
  • Understanding of concrete technology.
  • Proficiency in IT (MS Office).
  • A valid driving license is essential.
Diversity Commitment

We encourage applications from all qualified candidates. The construction industry and Sika's salesforce are currently underrepresented by women, and we particularly welcome applications from women interested in pursuing a career in the building supplies and materials sector. We aim to create an inclusive and enabling work environment for all.
