About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant in Cellular Pathology to join our team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. As a key member of our Pathology Clinical Support Unit, you will play a vital role in providing a timely and reliable pathology service in Cellular pathology, with a focus on thoracic and breast pathology, including screening programme specimens and cytology specimens.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a timely and reliable pathology service in Cellular pathology, including areas of practice relating to thoracic and breast pathology, including screening programme specimens and cytology specimens.
- Participate in the provision of the review service, which is part of the tertiary service activity, and provide advice and support to other clinical colleagues.
- Contribute to the audit and monitoring of the clinical effectiveness of medical care and participate in multidisciplinary clinical care.
- Cover other consultant colleagues for periods of annual or study leave and participate in the effective running of the department.
- Maintain a close working relationship with other consultant histopathologists and technical and scientific staff within the Department.
- Support the procedures, standards, and initiatives required for laboratory accreditation by UKAS Ltd and inspection by the HTA.
- Participate in Departmental and external audit activity, including audits performed within Regional and National Specialty Networks.
- Contribute to the professional supervision and training of medical, scientific, and technical staff within the Department.
- Undertake research and development work within LTHT, if desired.
Person Specification
Essential
- FRCPath or equivalent qualification.
- Full and Specialist registration (and with a license to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC).
- Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Is up to date and fit to practice safely.
Desirable
- Relevant higher degree.
- Dedicated training time in specialist thoracic and breast pathology teams including exposure to NHS screening programme specimens.
- Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
