Position Overview

Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer

About the Role:

We are looking for a skilled Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team at Macro. In this pivotal role, you will be tasked with directing and managing mechanical systems projects from inception to completion. Your collaboration with clients, contractors, and engineering teams will be essential to ensure timely and budget-conscious project delivery. The ideal candidate will have a robust mechanical engineering background complemented by outstanding leadership and communication abilities.

As a Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer, you will engage in a diverse array of projects, including commercial and healthcare facilities. Your responsibilities will encompass coordinating with both internal and external teams, reviewing design documentation, and providing technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle. Furthermore, you will ensure adherence to regulatory standards and building codes.

Your role will also involve conducting feasibility assessments and designing solutions for minor works projects, ensuring seamless execution. You will oversee project management to optimize budgets and resources, thereby maximizing value from our clients' property portfolios.

Building strong relationships across project teams and various technical disciplines will be crucial. You will need to convey technical information to a wide range of stakeholders in a clear, non-technical manner, facilitating informed business decisions.

Additionally, you will implement appropriate systems and procedures to effectively manage and control delivery standards, budget oversight, programming forecasts, and planning.

The position requires site visits to assess work across various locations as dictated by project needs. Typical properties may include educational institutions, community centers, office buildings, and recreational facilities. You will lead project teams alongside colleagues from other specialized areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct feasibility studies and provide informed recommendations.
  • Scope and present detailed reports, assisting the project quantity surveyor in defining the MEP scope for cost estimation.
  • Perform surveys, design, and specification services.
  • Ensure compliance with best practices and legislation regarding health and safety, including asbestos management.
  • Take personal accountability for service delivery.
  • Engage with clients and other consultants at all stages of the project.
  • Document key insights and learning from each project in the internal database.
  • Explore new technologies for data collection and reporting.
  • Collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Postgraduate experience in mechanical design with a solid understanding of electrical services for effective MEP project management.
  • Relevant qualifications such as HNC/HND or a degree in mechanical engineering, with experience in building services including LTHW/CHW/DHW, BCWS, sprinklers, ventilation, and drainage systems.
  • Proficiency in design software such as IES and Hevacomp.
  • Experience in design with either a consultancy or contracting firm up to stage 4 level, including drawings, specifications, and schedules.
  • Possession of a professional qualification or competency may be required.
  • Strong understanding of relevant principles and practices in the technical field.
  • Ability to gather, monitor, and analyze a variety of data.
  • Proven track record of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of computerized business systems.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively.
  • Capacity to understand, meet, and exceed client expectations.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills with a knack for developing and implementing innovative solutions.
  • Minimum educational qualifications of HNC/HND or degree level, ideally working towards membership of IMechE or CIBSE.
  • Satisfactory DBS clearance is required.

Macro is committed to inclusivity and encourages applications from a diverse range of candidates. We welcome interest from individuals who may not meet all the criteria outlined but believe they could be a good fit for this or other roles within our organization.
