About the Role

The Infection Prevention Control Specialist Nurse will be responsible for the development, implementation, and management of infection prevention and control programs across the Independent Health Group. The post holder will ensure that policies and practices support the delivery of a safe and hygienic experience for both staff and patients by minimizing the risk of infection transmission and providing assurance of compliance with the requirements of the Health and Social Care Act.

Main Responsibilities

  • Infection Control Program Development:
    • Develop and implement comprehensive infection prevention and control programs specific to the theatre environments.
    • Establish and update infection control policies and procedures based on current guidelines and industry best practices.
  • Training and Education:
    • Conduct regular training sessions for staff on infection prevention protocols and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Educate staff on the importance of hygiene practices, including hand hygiene, wound management, and respiratory etiquette.
  • Risk Assessment and Surveillance:
    • Perform regular risk assessments to identify potential infection hazards within the theatre.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of infection control measures through regular audit and surveillance activities.
    • Monitor and evaluate any post-operative complications relating to wound healing.
  • Cleaning and Disinfection:
    • Oversee the cleaning and disinfection protocols for all theatre areas.
    • Ensure the use of approved disinfectants and cleaning agents in compliance with health regulations.
  • Outbreak Management:
    • Develop and implement outbreak response plans to address potential infectious disease incidents.
    • Coordinate with public health authorities and internal teams to manage and control outbreaks effectively.
  • Compliance and Reporting:
    • Ensure compliance with local, regional, and national infection control regulations and guidelines.
    • Maintain accurate records of infection control activities and prepare regular reports as required.
    • Will actively drive the IPC group and associated activities.

Person Specification

  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in infection prevention and control, preferably in a healthcare or social care setting.
    • Experience in IPC in a theatre environment and ventilation requirements.
    • In-depth knowledge of infection control principles, practices, and regulations.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Proficiency in using computer software for data analysis and reporting.

  • Qualifications:
    • Current NMC registration.
    • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
    • Recognized Qualification in Infection Control or equivalent experience.
