Winter Service Gritter Driver

Job Summary:

Norse Highways is seeking qualified drivers to join our gritting teams across Norfolk to help us maintain safe passage for road users throughout the winter months.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate a gritter vehicle to spread salt and other materials on roads to prevent ice and snow from forming.
  • Work on a casual employment basis, with hours dependent on weather conditions.
  • Respond to gritting action throughout the winter season on an AM/PM shift pattern.
  • Learn an allocated route and operate the vehicle safely and efficiently.
  • Participate in vehicle checks prior to commencing work and comply with driving hours regulations.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a professional LGV Driver with LGV Class C1 Licence, CPC Qualification.
  • City & Guilds Winter Service Operation Certificate or willingness to complete training funded by Norse Highways.
  • Previous experience operating relevant plant and machinery.
  • Confident in carrying out vehicle checks and responding to gritting action.
  • Ability to learn an allocated route and operate the vehicle safely and efficiently.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive hourly rates, including £14.36 per hour (daytime, Monday - Friday), £21.54 per hour (before 07:30am and after 16:00pm), and £28.72 per hour (Sundays and Bank Holidays) + weekly retainer.
  • Standby payment throughout the 26-week season for drivers allocated a specific route or covering a specific route for a given week.
