Academic English Director

The Head of English will be responsible for ensuring high-quality learning takes place and outstanding attainment and progress are secured at all key stages. This role will also involve leading the English Department at the same high standard across all teaching.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement a comprehensive English curriculum that inspires young people and instills a love of English as an academic subject and in the world around them.
- Lead a team of English teachers to deliver sophisticated lessons and continue to raise teaching standards within the department.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop a strong academic culture where the highest standards are expected of staff and students.
- Recruit, train, and develop English teachers to ensure the department is well-equipped to meet the needs of students.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the English curriculum and make recommendations for improvement.
Future Academies Watford is a school set in leafy Hertfordshire, well-connected with many transport links and a short train journey away from the centre of London. We are part of Future Academies, a Multi-Academy Trust which includes three primary schools and seven secondary schools in and around London and Hertfordshire.
Our school motto is libertas per cultum (freedom through education), and we place a strong emphasis on raising young people's aspirations and outcomes through the teaching of classical and traditional subjects. Our children and young people study a bespoke curriculum developed by researchers at our Curriculum Centre, which places a focus on developing their cultural literacy and their awareness of the forces, words, and events that have shaped our society today.
