Manchester, United Kingdom Morson Talent Full time

Job Title:
Research Scientist

Starting Salary:
Approximately GBP25,000 (dependent upon experience)

Duration:
Fixed term contract

Location:
Manchester

About the Role:
We are seeking a Research Scientist to become a part of our National Biomarker Centre.

The National Biomarker Centre (NBC) at CRUK Manchester Institute is at the forefront of cancer biomarker research.

The NBC comprises several synergistic teams, including the Preclinical Pharmacology (PP) team, which employs various preclinical cancer models to explore the biology and dependencies of diverse cancers.

A key aspect of this role involves the creation, development, and application of animal models of cancer, particularly focusing on patient-derived models.

The objective of this position is to assist in the daily operations of the preclinical team and conduct research under the guidance of the Group Leader, Preclinical Pharmacology Team Leader, and In Vivo Team Manager.

About You:

You should possess a BSc (or equivalent) in a biology-related field or have relevant experience, and be a current or former holder of a Home Office Personal Licence (PIL A and B) or equivalent under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986.

Your responsibilities will include conducting in vivo preclinical pharmacology studies in collaboration with academic and industrial drug developers, including the analysis of predictive and pharmacodynamic biomarkers.

Ideally, you will have foundational knowledge of cancer biology, experience in in vivo pharmacology, and a strong commitment to translating research for patient benefit.

Our Centre is dedicated to discovering, developing, validating, and qualifying biomarkers in clinical studies and trials that facilitate earlier cancer detection and optimize treatment responses.

Our advanced research initiatives, independent of cancer type, focus on developing biomarkers in tissue and less invasive clinical samples such as blood (liquid biopsy), utilizing sophisticated bioinformatics and artificial intelligence solutions for comprehensive laboratory and clinical biomarker data analysis and interpretation.

Our preclinical programs emphasize the development of pharmacodynamic biomarkers and the evaluation of novel therapeutics in patient-derived models.

As a vital link between discovery science and clinical research, we maintain a highly collaborative environment across Manchester, nationally, and internationally.

Organisational Arrangements
