Job Summary

The Church of England is seeking a skilled and compassionate Anglican Chaplain to provide spiritual care and support to prisoners and staff in a correctional facility. As a key member of the chaplaincy team, you will play a vital role in promoting faith and pastoral care, while fostering a sense of community and respect for all individuals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide spiritual guidance and support to prisoners and staff, respecting their individual faith traditions and needs.
  • Develop and lead worship services, meditation sessions, and other faith-based programs to promote spiritual growth and well-being.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the delivery of high-quality faith and pastoral care services, aligning with the Prison Service's policies and guidelines.
  • Build relationships with local faith communities and other agencies to support the resettlement of offenders and promote community engagement.
  • Contribute to the development of local policies, procedures, and practices, ensuring that they are informed by best practices in faith and pastoral care.
  • Provide mentoring and support to other chaplains and volunteers, promoting a culture of excellence and teamwork.
  • Participate in training programs and materials development to enhance staff and volunteer knowledge and skills in faith and pastoral care.
  • Engage in ongoing spiritual development and self-care, ensuring that you are equipped to provide compassionate and effective support to those in need.
Requirements
  • Meet the faith eligibility requirements for the Anglican tradition, as outlined in the Group Profile.
  • Hold a recognized qualification in theology or religious studies, with a minimum of three years of part-time study.
  • Have at least one year of relevant experience in delivering worship, group work, and pastoral care in a faith development or pastoral setting.
  • Be a Reader (as set out in Canon E4 of The Canons of the Church of England or direct equivalent in other Anglican provinces) or a Religious sister or brother, Church Army Evangelist, or other appropriately qualified or licensed minister in the Anglican tradition.
  • Hold Diocesan DBS clearance and up-to-date safeguarding training.
Working Arrangements

The successful candidate will work a 37-hour week, with flexibility to accommodate the needs of the chaplaincy team and the correctional facility. The ability to communicate effectively in English is essential for this role.
