Job Title: Data Center Engineer
Job Summary:
ERT is seeking a highly skilled Data Center Engineer to support our environmental satellite data center in Fairmont, WV. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance of servers and network equipment, as well as providing backup support for our satellite antenna technician.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide primary support to non-legacy Consolidated Backup (CBU) system operations
- Perform corrective and preventive maintenance, data center walkthroughs, emergency maintenance response, and status reporting
- Perform satellite antenna technician functions
- Provide backup support to antenna lead, data center engineer, and legacy system engineer
- Monitor and perform preventive and corrective maintenance on servers and network equipment
- Inspect network and computer cables for conformance with engineering drawings and signs of wear or installation that deviates from systems drawings and documentation
- Support wall to wall 'touch' inventory, spare parts and consumables inventory audits and spot checks
- Audit engineering drawings, rack elevation diagrams, wiring diagrams and other technical documents with respect to the installed physical assets
- Provide written comments to documentation and drawings on variance from the existing specifications
- Support equipment shipment deliveries, unboxing, equipment inventory, storage and updating logs and inventory reports
- Monitor spare parts and consumables and report on stock on hand compared to reorder points
- Monitor and document data center environmental data (temperature, humidity, etc.) in operational logs
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections and activities including removing dust from equipment, changing/cleaning filters, and changing batteries
- Run hardware diagnostics and replace failing parts
- Perform systems administration tasks as directed
- Collaborate with software and network engineering teams on cybersecurity and network efficiency
- Upgrade internal system components, including CPUs, memory, hard drives, and network cables
- Document processes and keep event logs
- Advise on the procurement of new data center equipment
- Keep track of developing trends in data center methods, technologies, and trends
Requirements:
- 4+ years of experience as a data center technician, or similar position
- CompTIA ServerPlus, CompTIA Network, or CCNP certification would be advantageous
- In-depth knowledge of data center environments, servers, and network equipment
- Extensive experience in installing, monitoring, and maintaining data center equipment
- Exceptional ability to work as part of a team, provide IT support, and resolve errors
- Ability to keep up with advancements in data center infrastructure and technologies
- Proficiency in documenting network processes
- Oral and written communication skills
- Willingness to respond to network and server errors after hours
Education:
Bachelor's in Computer Science, Information Technology, related degree or equivalent
