Job Title: Head of Portfolio Management Office

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled professional to lead our Portfolio Management Office. As the Head of Portfolio Management Office, you will be responsible for overseeing the full portfolio of customer and strategic projects, providing expert knowledge and support to the project delivery team, monitoring progress, and reporting on the portfolio status.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Oversight: Assess the current health of the project management department and identify gaps between current practice and best practice.
  • Commercial Contract Review: Conduct a review of commercial contracts to ensure compliance with contractual stipulations.
  • Project Governance: Define, develop, and implement a project management governance framework with the support of organisational sponsors.
  • Team Management: Manage and mentor the project management team to ensure a positive, supportive, and empowering team culture.
  • Performance Monitoring: Ensure each team member has relevant objectives and that regular performance reviews are carried out.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement appropriate data gathering practices for monitoring, controlling, and reporting project data.
  • Technology Evaluation: Work with the IT department to evaluate potential software solutions for data collection.
  • Standardization: Standardise portfolio management methods and documentation to drive successful project delivery.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Strengthen learning and engagement throughout the business by creating communities of practice.
  • Portfolio Performance: Monitor portfolio performance using reports and auditing techniques to maintain strategic alignment.

Requirements:

  • Education: Computing related degree or 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience: A minimum of five years' experience in a project management role and a minimum of five years' experience managing and developing a large team.
  • Skills: Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, strong self-motivation with exceptional organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.

Desirable:

  • Industry Experience: A minimum of ten years' experience in a project management role in a similar industry.
  • Professional Qualification: A recognised professional qualification in project management such as Prince2.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in a second language as well as English.
