Early Years SEND Inclusion Specialist

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Early Years SEND and Portage Practitioner to join our team at Leicestershire County Council.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with children from birth to school entry who have identified additional needs, both in their homes and in early years provision.

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing support to families and children with SEND, as well as delivering training to early years providers and parents.

You will also have the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge through training and working alongside experienced colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support to families and children with SEND
  • Deliver training to early years providers and parents
  • Work with children in their homes and in early years provision
  • Develop and implement individualized plans for children with SEND
  • Collaborate with other professionals to ensure seamless support for children and families

Requirements

  • Level 3 in childcare or equivalent
  • Training on a course for Portage Home Visitors recognized by the National Portage Association or willingness to undertake
  • Substantial experience working with families and children with SEND
  • Experience of collaborative working within a partnership context with external agencies to enhance SEND
  • Experience of working with children under 5 and knowledge of child development up to the age of 5
  • Knowledge of a range of special educational needs
  • Ability to relate to parents/carers who may be under considerable stress
