Position Overview
The Instrumentation Technician will deliver essential engineering support to the operational assets within the facility. This role demands the ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team of operations, instrumentation, electrical, and mechanical personnel. The primary objective is to enhance the reliability and availability of the assets while ensuring compliance with safety, health, and environmental (SHE) standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily core activities related to instrumentation, including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repairs, and installations of instrumentation equipment.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance coordination team, discipline engineers, and operations technicians to address and resolve daily operational challenges.
  • Engage with permit signatories to prepare and discuss permit requests, method statements, and risk assessments.
  • Coordinate with other trades and supervisors for scaffolding and lagging support as necessary for specific tasks.
  • Become proficient in the permit system and execute enabling isolations on the site’s instrumentation systems.
  • Conduct fault diagnosis following equipment failures, identify issues, and implement solutions within designated timeframes while minimizing costs.
  • Ensure competence in the operation, maintenance, and installation of instrumentation systems in line with relevant standards and procedures.
  • Adhere to the Control of Work system and associated Site Safety Orders.
  • Supervise and facilitate personnel and tasks as required.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship and NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualifications.
  • ONC or HNC qualifications are preferred.
  • Possession of CompEX modules 01 – 04 certification.
  • Preferred certification in BS7671 (current edition) IET Requirements for Electrical Installation.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, utilizing information from engineers and operating technicians to plan work effectively.
  • Familiarity with the SAP PM model is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated experience and training records to support competency assessments.
  • Proficient IT skills are essential.
  • Working knowledge of temperature, pressure, flow, and level systems.
  • Understanding of DCS, PLC, and emergency shutdown systems.
