Senior Intensive Care Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Intensive Care Nurse to join our team at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. As a Band 6 Intensive Recovery Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care in our 11-bedded Overnight Intensive Recovery unit.
Key Responsibilities- Manage a group of patients within the specialty, working as part of the multidisciplinary team to deliver individualized and personalized direct patient care.
- Demonstrate appropriate practice and specialist advice in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
- Administer prescribed medication, including transfusion of blood and blood products, and ensure accurate records are maintained.
- Recognize and respond to emergencies, leading others to do the same, and ensure patients receive high-quality clinical care and a good patient experience.
- Provide leadership, support, and guidance to staff in monitoring the planning, delivery, and evaluation of individualized care.
- Ensure safe and effective care for complex patients requiring advanced clinical skills and responsible for carrying out specialist nursing procedures.
- Ensure sensitive patient records are stored appropriately and staff take precautions to minimize the risk of cross-infection.
- Communicate effectively with patients, carers, and families regarding disease treatment and management.
- Facilitate a high-quality, cost-effective specialist service through monitoring and audit and other quality initiatives agreed by the Trust.
- Identify and intervene where circumstances contribute to an unsafe environment for patients and staff, and bring instances to the attention of the Sister/Charge Nurse.
- Contribute to the Trust's clinical supervision program for staff and assist the Sister/Charge Nurse in developing a culture that is challenging, stimulating, rewarding, and supportive.
- Act as a mentor/assessor to unqualified staff and provide education, advice, and support to a team of nurses.
- Utilize research findings in the delivery of specialist patient care, developing new ways of working, and disseminate relevant information to staff.
- Provide a leadership role model and demonstrate specialist knowledge and high standards of clinical practice, providing support or advice when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of the clinical service and ensure confidentiality of information is adhered to.
- Organize own work and manage own caseload and practice, identifying and maintaining supportive networks for self and other staff members.
- Take an active role in risk assessment, supporting implementation of strategies to minimize risk, and ensure incidents and near misses are reported through promoting a no-blame culture.
We are looking for a candidate with the following experience and skills:
- Experience and competence in the management of patients within the specialty.
- Experience of teaching/assessing/supervising others in a clinical setting.
- Supervision of junior staff.
Desirable criteria include experience of co-ordinating a shift and up-to-date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues, including evidence-based practice.
Qualifications and RegistrationThe ideal candidate will hold a post-registration qualification in or demonstrate relevant experience and competence in the specialty, as well as a Mentorship/Teaching Qualification, BSC/1st degree (health-related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience, and evidence of specialist course completion.
The candidate must also be registered with the NMC as a RN1/RN2/RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse.
