Position Overview

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust is seeking a dedicated Consultant Ophthalmologist with a focus on Pediatric Ophthalmology. This role is integral to our team at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, where we strive to provide exceptional ophthalmic care to the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver comprehensive General Ophthalmology services across multiple sites.
  • Engage in specialized clinics for Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and Medical Retina, including diabetic retinopathy.
  • Participate in our Glaucoma service, which includes virtual clinics and support from allied health professionals.
  • Contribute to our Oculoplastic service, offering Botox and minor procedures.
  • Provide expert care in our Paediatric service, supported by optometric professionals.
Job Plan

The anticipated job plan includes:

  • 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), comprising 1-2 theatre sessions and 4 outpatient clinics.
  • Participation in the on-call ophthalmic service on a 1:9 rota.
Work Environment

This position is primarily based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, with opportunities to work across our network of hospitals as needed. Routine duties will predominantly occur at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, while theatre responsibilities will be at Westmorland General Hospital.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (with a license to practice).
  • A Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within 6 months of completing training at the time of interview.
  • Experience in clinical supervision and involvement in medical education.

This role is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, necessitating a Disclosure check to verify any prior criminal convictions.
