All young people are entitled to have their needs met in a fair and balanced way. As a Residential Care Worker, you will be responsible for promoting equal opportunities for all and challenging any behavior or practice that discriminates against any young person or colleague.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Provide care for young people through attending to practical matters, establishing positive relationships, and meeting their physical, emotional, behavioral, cultural, and educational needs.
  2. Act as a role model, demonstrating appropriate pro-social ways of dealing with problems and helping young people gain self-control.
  3. Ensure each young person's care plan is followed and amended as necessary to reflect their changing needs.
  4. Take responsibility for a small number of young people, ensuring their needs are fully met, and establishing relationships that are positive, warm, and rewarding.
  5. Provide advice, assistance, and support on a 1:1 basis, helping young people address past and present difficulties, and providing emotional support during times of stress.
  6. Be ambitious for young people, helping them achieve their goals and optimize their potential, and providing support for their education and extracurricular activities.
  7. Keep accurate records and provide written reports on young people for planning meetings, reviews, or other meetings as directed by the line manager.
  8. Empower young people, facilitating their active involvement in decision-making about their lives and future, and acting as an advocate at meetings where the young person is the subject of discussion.
  9. Encourage young people to develop links with the community, attend off-site activities, and expand their personal social network.
Working as Part of a Team:
  1. Be aware of the aims and objectives of the home and work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve them.
  2. Attend team/staff meetings and make a positive contribution to them.
  3. Actively contribute to the development of the team, receiving and storing information to improve communication, and being willing to give and receive feedback on performance with colleagues and managers.
  4. Be aware of childcare plans for all young people and provide support for colleagues by maintaining consistency in the execution of those plans.
  5. Provide informal practical and emotional support to colleagues experiencing difficulties, and attend and contribute to regular supervision sessions in line with the National Minimum standards.
  6. Monitor the conduct of colleagues and refer any causes for concern (whistleblowing), and be familiar with all policies and procedures, adhering to them.
General:
  1. Attend young people's meetings and contribute to them.
  2. Drive company vehicles (current driving license holders subject to procedures).
  3. Receive training appropriate to the role and maintain an up-to-date training profile.
  4. Be responsible for the accurate maintenance of financial records appropriate to the duties of the post.
  5. Be responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of self and colleagues in accordance with the requirements of the organizational Health and Safety Policies.
  6. Carry out all other reasonable tasks as directed by the line manager.
