Job Title: Data Center Technical Operations Engineer

Location: Remote

Contract Type: 5 Month Contract

Pay: £182.72 per day

Job Summary:

The Data Center Technical Operations Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our data center infrastructure. This includes maintaining electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment to the highest standards, as well as supervising corrective and preventative maintenance of critical infrastructure.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and build of new data halls and data centers.
  • Produce reports and documentation on all aspects of the critical infrastructure.
  • Manage on-site sub-contractors and vendors, ensuring all work performed is in accordance with established practices and procedures.
  • Manage relationships with third-party colocation providers and their staff.
  • Review vendor RAMS (Risk Assessment Method Statements) and MOPs (Methods of Procedure) to ensure all safety practices are adhered to while performing work.
  • Operate and manage routine and emergency services on a variety of critical systems, including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, etc.
  • Identify and execute opportunities to improve energy efficiency in the data center.
  • Manage operational aspects of the data center, including project management and asset inventory management.
  • Participate in recruiting efforts.
  • Work 12 hour rotating day/night shifts and be flexible to travel between sites.

Requirements:

  • City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of work experience in a critical operations environment.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Good understanding of data center critical infrastructure, including diesel generators, chillers, cooling towers, CHW systems, air handling units, UPS, HV/LV electrical distribution systems, fire detection and suppression systems.
  • Ability to prioritize in a complex and fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS7671 18th Edition.
  • High/Low Voltage Authorised Person (AP) experience.
  • 6+ years of data center engineering/operations experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Fundamental knowledge of network design and layout as well as low voltage (copper/fiber) cabling.
