The Polio Team collaborates with partners from the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), along with national governments, donors, and other stakeholders, to devise and execute strategies aimed at eradicating Polio worldwide. The Opportunity
As a vital member of the Polio Endemics team, the Senior Program Officer for Country Engagement will play a crucial role in enhancing the foundation's collaboration with key partners and national polio eradication programs in Pakistan. The focus will be on effectively utilizing the foundation's resources to improve the quality of immunization efforts, strengthen polio surveillance, and foster an environment conducive to the implementation of innovative strategies aimed at eradicating polio, particularly by empowering female frontline workers.
Ideal candidates will possess strong operational and project management skills, a proven ability to engage stakeholders at various levels, and meticulous attention to detail. They will work closely with provincial polio eradication program stakeholders to drive initiatives that accelerate the elimination of polioviruses, particularly in endemic regions, with the goal of achieving global polio eradication certification.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with internal teams, international partners, and government entities in Pakistan to ensure effective execution of national polio eradication strategies.
- Identify and implement initiatives to enhance the quality of immunization activities, focusing on key areas such as:
- Provision of high-quality technical assistance.
- Regular analysis of polio surveillance data.
- Enhanced monitoring and reporting mechanisms.
- Ongoing engagement with stakeholders committed to polio eradication.
- Increased community involvement in immunization efforts.
- Support initiatives to address immunity gaps in vulnerable populations, particularly in areas with ongoing wild poliovirus transmission.
- Lead efforts to improve the experience and motivation of female frontline workers, facilitating increased vaccination rates among previously unvaccinated children through enhanced communication and support initiatives.
- Participate in technical reviews at provincial and district levels to assess program operations and community engagement strategies.
- Provide insights on financial resource requirements for effective polio eradication efforts.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Public Health or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience in public health program management.
- Familiarity with immunization and polio eradication efforts in developing countries is advantageous.
- Experience collaborating with global health organizations and understanding of government health systems.
- Proven ability to build strong partnerships with policymakers and development partners.
- Experience in project management within a collaborative team environment.
- Knowledge of cultural and social factors affecting public health administration in developing contexts.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Urdu and/or Pashto is a plus.
Travel Requirements
Willingness to travel up to 60%, primarily within the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
