Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to provide 1:1 support to a child with complex and diverse needs in a mainstream school setting. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of behaviour management, de-escalation techniques, and emotional regulation, and will be able to create a supportive and structured environment conducive to learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to the student, ensuring their specific educational and emotional needs are met.
  • Implement individualised learning plans and specialised interventions, particularly for dyslexia.
  • Assist in managing the student's social and communication difficulties, facilitating positive interactions with peers and staff.
  • Create and maintain a calm and sensory-friendly environment to help the student regulate their emotions and behaviours.
  • Monitor the student's safety, especially during times of emotional dysregulation or sensory overload, and provide immediate intervention as needed.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SEN coordinators, and external professionals to ensure a holistic approach to the student's education and well-being.
  • Utilise de-escalation techniques and co-regulation strategies to manage challenging behaviours effectively.
  • Document and report on the student's progress, adapting strategies as necessary to meet their evolving needs.
  • Liaise with family to ensure good communication between home and school.

Requirements:

  • Relevant qualifications in education or SEN support (e.g., Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, HLTA status)
  • Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Condition, ADD, dyslexia, and sensory processing issues
  • Knowledge of specialised educational strategies and interventions for SEN students
  • A strong understanding of behaviour management, de-escalation techniques, and emotional regulation
  • Ability to create a supportive and structured environment conducive to learning
  • Team Teach trained or willing to complete the training
