Job Title: Principal Systems Engineer

About the Role:

Leonardo is seeking a highly skilled Principal Systems Engineer to join its Yeovil-based engineering team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for designing and building classified ICT products and solutions for defence, government, and public sector organizations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to system design and low-level design using technical expertise and best practices.
  • Develop, integrate, and test system solutions, including scripting for system automation and integration.
  • Provide progress and status reports to internal customers.
  • Configure and administer system security tools, including SIEM systems, IDS/IPS, and Endpoint Detection and Response.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and faults to diagnose problems and offer proposed solutions.
  • Implement security control measures, including operating system lockdown controls.
  • Develop systems engineering artefacts, including documentation to support system solution delivery and maintenance.
  • Mentor other team members in area of specialism.
  • Provide specialist technical support to the business unit, supporting projects or wider programs.
  • Work with external third parties to develop robust and costed solutions.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrable experience in systems engineering or IT solution delivery, preferably in a secure environment.
  • Strong all-round technical ability with excellent knowledge of network and systems infrastructure technologies.
  • Awareness of cyber security capabilities is advantageous.
  • Clearance to be a sole UK national with DV clearance.

Desirable Skills:

  • Good working knowledge and experience of Wintel IT systems.
  • Broad scope of skills and experience of mainstream IT infrastructure services and components, including Microsoft Active Directory services, Windows and Linux server installation and builds, virtualisation technologies, and Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Practical experience of implementing security policies and system lockdowns, including Microsoft Active Directory GPOs, application whitelisting/blacklisting, and device/media control.
  • Implementation and management of enterprise-class patching/update solutions, including Microsoft WSUS.
