Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Early Years Practitioner to join our team at the University of Plymouth. As an Enhanced Practitioner, you will play a key role in supporting the team leader to lead, coach, and motivate the staff team, ensuring a consistent high-quality service is provided to all children and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the delivery and continuous development of an effective and flexible early year's provision.
  • Ensure high standards of childcare are implemented throughout the nursery.
  • Organise and supervise the day-to-day workflow of the team to ensure agreed targets and standards are consistently met in the absence of a Team leader.
  • Develop, motivate, and coach the team to deliver their best, providing feedback on performance to enable continuous development.
  • Respond to the needs of children/parents/carers and liaise with outside agencies as appropriate.
  • Support in multiagency meetings, contributing knowledge and expertise.
  • Maintain a flexible approach to the work of the setting in response to the needs of the children, families, and staff.
  • Understand that change may take place and take remedial action.
  • Be responsible at all times for high standards of care and education of children between 0-5 years of age in accordance with statutory guidance and strive for best practice.
  • Have a detailed knowledge of the EYFS and curriculum, supporting others in the development of their knowledge and implementing this into practice.
  • Ensure the EYFS and setting curriculum is followed effectively, leading by example, to enable children to make progress and reach their full potential.
  • Plan and prioritize own workload and planning of activities within the team.
  • Demonstrate creativity and initiative to resolve less straightforward and unpredictable problems that arise.
  • Handle pastoral care issues with sensitivity as presented by children/parents/carers/stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate and effective children's records, including learning journeys, and ensure that observations are carried out to a high standard.
  • Able to write IEPs and support with SEND needs independently, contacting the nursery SENDCO for support when needed.
  • Liaise with others internally and externally to the team to pass on information or facts necessary to complete work activities.
  • Respond to requests from service users and provide assistance and advice to team members and service users with sensitivity and tact.
  • Ensure and support effective implementation of Key Person procedures.
  • Assist and support less experienced team members.
  • Moderate physical or sensory effort (lifting, carrying, and concentration) may be required for significant periods of time.
  • Assist in maintaining the nursery building, resources, and equipment to a high standard.
  • Record information and data on databases and other systems and/or carry out the basic investigation of facts.
  • Follow standard H&S guidelines and report issues as necessary.
  • Have a strong knowledge of safeguarding and be able to support other staff with their knowledge.
  • Maintain a positive, friendly working environment.
  • Ensure all activities are undertaken according to Freshlings policies, procedures, and working practices as well as the University and UCSP safety policies.
  • Act in a way that demonstrates the University's and UCSP commitment to Equality and Diversity for staff, students, and partners.
