About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Cleaning and Support Services Assistant at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our housekeeping team, you will play a vital role in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene across our hospital sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • To ensure the cleanliness of assigned areas, including corridors, offices, stairs, toilets, bathrooms, and patient bed spaces, using a variety of tasks and procedures.
  • To adhere to all aspects of Control of Infection & Prevention procedures, including the use of colour coded equipment to prevent the spread of infection.
  • To comply with National Cleaning Standards and required cleaning frequencies as per work schedules.
  • To remove rubbish from ward/department areas to designated collection points, ensuring correct disposal of Clinical and Domestic waste in line with Trusts and national Waste Policies.
  • To perform general floor scrubbing and floor maintenance according to agreed frequencies and guidelines.
  • To ensure correct use of chemicals, handling, storage, and safe usage in line with COSHH regulations, safety data sheets, and training given.
  • To maintain cleaning equipment, including electrical, in good working order.
  • To report equipment breakdown, faults with building fabric, or hazardous occurrences to Line Manager.
  • To attend all training sessions and complete competency tests as appropriate.
  • To ensure all work is carried out in accordance with manual handling training received to ensure personal health and safety and that of others.
  • To ensure adherence to Trust standards regarding uniform, conduct, and wearing of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • To maintain patients' privacy and dignity throughout work.
  • To ensure bathrooms, shower rooms, WCs, and wash hand basins are cleaned in accordance with agreed Bathroom Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
  • To respond to any actions arising from cleaning audits.
  • To carry out reasonable duties as required and cooperate fully when new methods of work or frequencies of cleaning are introduced.

Person Specification

  • A good level of General Education, Numeracy, and Literacy.
  • A good standard of English is essential for Effective Communication and understanding.
  • Willing to undertake training as required, including COSHH, Infection Control, Health and Safety, Manual Handling, Food Safety, Fire Safety, and all other training deemed mandatory to the role.
  • Educated to NVQ Level 1 Certificate in Cleaning and Support Services or willing to obtain.

Desirable

  • Cleaning experience of working within a healthcare environment.
  • Experience in the use of cleaning equipment, including floor machinery.
  • Knowledge of hygiene standards, including infection, prevention, and control within the workplace.
  • Positive attitude and ability to communicate with patients, staff, and visitors.
