Job Description

Salary: £60,000 - £65,000 pro rata (£36,000 - £39,000 pro rated based on 3 days per week)

Job Type: Part time, 10 Month Fixed Term maternity cover contract, with possibility of extension depending on length of maternity leave

Hours: 3 days per week / 24 hours per week. Working hours will normally be between 10am and 6pm, between Monday to Friday (ideally fixed days each week, but if required these could be worked flexibly), although additional hours may be necessary to fulfil the requirements of the post.

About the Role:

The Inclusion and Access Lead provides strategic leadership and expertise to ensure The Old Vic is a welcoming and inclusive environment for all audiences, staff, and stakeholders. This role is responsible for developing and implementing inclusion strategies, policies, and practices that promote diversity, equity, and access.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement inclusion strategies, policies, and practices that promote diversity, equity, and access.
  • Provide advice, challenge, and education on inclusion matters to staff, stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Lead the Inclusion Working Group and collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance inclusion initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on inclusion, diversity, and equity for staff, stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Conduct access audits and provide recommendations for improving access and inclusion in our building, facilities, program, services, and communications.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of inclusion initiatives and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop and manage the inclusion budget and ensure effective use of resources.
  • Collaborate with HR to develop and implement diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Provide regular briefings to senior colleagues and Board members on diversity and inclusion matters.
  • Ensure all members of protected characteristic groups have a voice at The Old Vic through the Inclusion Working Group.
  • Celebrate diversity through organized events and awareness sessions.
  • Write and circulate communications on awareness days, celebratory events, and as part of All Staff meetings.
  • Champion the embedding of effective inclusion practices into every phase of the employment lifecycle.
  • Contribute and develop program sessions and youth/community engagement strategies for the Education & Community team.
  • Work with external experts to review the accessibility of the Backstage Building and our current office spaces, and set objectives to monitor progression around this objective.
  • Compile written annual Gender and Ethnicity Pay Gap Reports for publishing publicly on our website.
  • Share analysis and recommendations with SMG following collation of the data from The Old Vic's annual Equality Survey and wider staff updates.
  • Continuing our research with our Access Audiences by analyzing survey data and supplementing this with focus groups, and communicating findings with the Artistic Director, Executive Director, Producer, and COO at agreed intervals.
  • Assist the Education & Community and Production teams with their diversity evaluation and associated processes.

Requirements:

  • Extensive knowledge of UK legislation and inclusive best practices, including relevant disability legislation and good practice, including the Equality Act 2010.
  • Proven experience of implementing and measuring the impact of inclusion initiatives, agendas, and strategy.
  • Proven ability to identify opportunities to develop diversity and inclusion programs which support The Old Vic's mission, vision, and values.
  • Strong project management, research, analysis, and reporting skills.
  • Strong external ED&I networks and communities.
