We are seeking a highly skilled Research Engineer to join our dynamic team at the Cambridge Research Laboratory. The successful candidate will take a lead role in the design and implementation of programmable logic and PCBs at the heart of our quantum communication systems. Key responsibilities will include:
Key Responsibilities:- Design and implement FPGA firmware to integrate into complete quantum communication systems
- Develop FPGA code to drive optical components at GHz speeds and perform high-speed processing
- Design and layout of new RF PCBs
- Collaborate with Research Scientists and Optical Engineers to test and evaluate prototypes
- Write scientific reports and design documentation
- Degree level qualification in Electronic Engineering or equivalent subject
- Experience in FPGA development using VHDL/Verilog, including off-the-shelf IP blocks and writing new blocks
- Ability to read and understand circuit diagrams
- Experience working in RF and mixed signal electronic circuit design
- Experience in testing and debugging FPGA firmware and PCBs
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Knowledge and experience of quantum technologies, especially QKD and single-photon counting
- Understanding of optical communications, networking, and/or cryptography
- Competence in one or more software programming languages
