About the Role

This is a fixed-term opportunity to cover off-peak activity for a period of six months. The successful candidate will be based at our Ampthill site and will work within a CNC precision machine shop environment as a skilled CNC Miller.

Key Responsibilities
  • Programming, setting, and tool selection for multiple machine tools, including multi-axis machining centers with various programming languages (3 to 6 axis).
  • Supporting the development of machining processes and tooling/fixture design.
  • Mentoring and training of others, including apprentices.
  • Working to specifications, procedures, and engineering drawings.
  • Developing and improving work procedures/processes with the engineering team.
  • Problem-solving machine issues and facilitating corrective action plans.
  • Prioritizing workload to meet deliverable commitments and support production schedules to optimize machine utilization.
  • Demonstrating high-quality standards and supporting improvement initiatives.
Requirements
  • Ability to work from detailed engineering drawings producing conforming product.
  • Competent CNC Milling experience, with turning experience desirable.
  • Ability to program/post-process using Fanuc & Heidenhain languages.
  • Understanding and execution of CAD/CAM software.
  • Conversant with multi-axis machining methods (3 to 6 axis).
  • Good knowledge of inspection techniques and measuring equipment.
  • General engineering workshop practices and proven manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to work from written and verbal process instructions.
  • Ability to work independently from concept through to manufacture.
  • Adherence to Housekeeping and 6S standards within defined work areas.
  • Adherence to mechanical and manual lifting processes.
  • High level of CoSHH and H&S awareness.
  • Competent computer skills, including MS-office, MRP systems.
  • Good communication and reporting skills.
