This role requires a commitment of 37 hours per week, ensuring high-quality service throughout the season.


Role Objective:

Execute grounds upkeep and horticultural tasks to a superior standard while complying with all quality and Health & Safety regulations.

Work will primarily take place in public parks, sports fields, educational institutions, landscaped areas, and other communal outdoor spaces, utilizing a diverse array of horticultural tools, equipment, and vehicles.


Key Responsibilities:
• Recognize prevalent horticultural pests and diseases and implement suitable corrective measures.
• Hold the necessary qualifications for chemical pest and weed management.
• Operate independently or collaboratively to perform a comprehensive range of grounds upkeep and horticultural tasks, contributing to the enhancement of the urban environment and ensuring visitor satisfaction.
• Apply horticultural knowledge to effectively carry out advanced tasks, including seasonal pruning, soil preparation, planting (trees, perennials, and bedding plants), and turf installation.
• Conduct routine maintenance of all sports surfaces to guarantee readiness for public use, including fertilization, scarification, aeration, marking, and cleaning.
• Operate various horticultural machinery, including specialized equipment such as cylinder mowers, rotovators, and motorized sprayers, while performing checks and basic maintenance to ensure safe operation.
• Drive vehicles and other ride-on horticultural machinery, such as transit vans and tractors.
• Perform pre-use vehicle inspections, accurately documenting findings and reporting any issues to the Team Leader.
• Identify hazards and take corrective actions, reporting them to the Team Leader.
• Execute basic hard landscaping tasks, such as small-scale concreting and slab installation.

• Conduct daily visual inspections of playground equipment for damage or hazardous debris, completing reports to maintain agreed standards.

• Perform basic maintenance on sand/bark pits and hard surfaces within playgrounds.
• Assist senior staff with advanced tasks as required.
• Prioritize personal health and safety as well as that of others.
• Undertake additional duties as reasonably assigned.
• Strive for maximum productivity in all tasks.
• Deliver a positive customer experience, demonstrating a professional and helpful demeanor with service users and all internal and external stakeholders, maintaining a professional appearance and attitude, and ensuring vehicles are kept in good condition.
• Attend and actively engage in all required meetings and training sessions.
• Collaborate effectively as part of a team, supporting colleagues and contractors to ensure successful project completion.
Qualifications and Experience:
• NVQ Level 2 certificate in horticulture or equivalent experience in the industry.
• Strong understanding of Health and Safety regulations related to grounds maintenance and horticulture.
• NPTC PA1 & PA6A Spraying Certificate.
• Safe Use of Ride-On Mowers LANTRA Certificate.
• Safety Awareness Training Certificate.

Please note that the role of Landscape Maintenance Specialist is physically demanding, requiring manual handling, load lifting, and some excavation work. The position involves the use of noisy and vibrating machinery and requires outdoor work in various weather conditions.
