About the role:

We are seeking a Group HSEQ Manager to spearhead and enhance our client's commitment to ensuring safe and secure environments for employees, clients, and suppliers worldwide.

Reporting directly to the HSEQ People Director, this position is accountable for overseeing the Global HSEQ Management System and for the implementation and maintenance of global HSEQ certifications.

The role entails formulating, executing, and upholding policies, procedures, and programs to guarantee adherence to applicable laws, regulations, industry standards, and best practices.

Moreover, the Group HSEQ Manager will be instrumental in guiding the Company's journey towards achieving Net Zero emissions and promoting sustainability efforts.

This position necessitates close collaboration with management and operational teams to foster a culture of safety, quality, and environmental stewardship, driving ongoing enhancements in HSEQ performance.

Occasional travel to various sites and international locations will be required.

About the team:

As a member of the broader HSEQ & HR Team, you will report to our HSEQ People Director and collaborate with key stakeholders and departments throughout the organization.

The HSEQ function is vital in ensuring that everyone associated with our client can perform their roles efficiently, safely, and positively.

This role will significantly contribute to this mission.

Responsibilities:

HSEQ Leadership & Strategy:

  • Provide direction, line management, and support to the HSEQ team, ensuring a consistent approach and compliance with corporate standards.
  • Drive the development and continuous enhancement of HSEQ policies, procedures, and management systems across the organization.
  • Assist the HSEQ People Director in formulating the Group HSEQ strategy and ensure its execution throughout the business.

Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Ensure the Company adheres to all relevant health, safety, environmental, and quality regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure effective control measures are implemented.
  • Manage, investigate, and monitor HSEQ-related incidents, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are taken.
  • Hold overall responsibility for obtaining and maintaining approvals for ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and any additional relevant certifications.
  • Review the Health & Safety, Environmental Protection, and Quality Policies annually or when significant changes occur in legislation or working practices.

Net-Zero & Sustainability Leadership:

  • Develop and lead the execution of the Company's strategy to achieve net-zero emissions, ensuring alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement initiatives for energy efficiency, waste reduction, and carbon offsetting.
  • Monitor and report on sustainability performance, establishing and tracking key metrics related to environmental impact and resource utilization.
  • Engage with stakeholders to promote sustainability awareness and practices throughout the Company, including training and educational initiatives.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends, technologies, and regulations concerning sustainability and climate change, ensuring the Company remains at the forefront of best practices.

Training & Development:

  • Design and deliver HSEQ training and competency programs for employees at all levels, ensuring they understand their responsibilities and are equipped to work safely and efficiently.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends, regulations, and best practices, ensuring continuous professional development and mentoring for the HSEQ team.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Assist the HSEQ People Director in developing and maintaining HSEQ performance metrics, KPIs, and dashboards to track progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare regular reports for the HSEQ People Director, highlighting key HSEQ performance indicators and trends.
  • Coordinate and participate in management reviews of the HSEQ system and performance.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging feedback and ideas from all organizational levels to enhance HSEQ and sustainability performance.
  • Lead initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency and reducing waste, ensuring environmental sustainability is a key consideration in all activities.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Engage with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, clients, and suppliers, to ensure effective communication and compliance with HSEQ and sustainability requirements.
  • Provide HSEQ support during tenders, contract negotiations, and project execution.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for HSEQ and sustainability-related matters within the Company.

Incident Management & Emergency Response:

  • Oversee the development and implementation of emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Coordinate the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near-misses, ensuring timely reporting and thorough analysis.

Required skills / knowledge:

  • Chartered membership of IOSH preferred.
  • Professional certification in HSEQ (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, ISO 9001/14001/45001 Lead Auditor). Certification in Sustainability or Environmental Management is advantageous.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a senior HSEQ role, preferably within a multi-site or group environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of HSEQ regulations, standards, and best practices, along with experience in sustainability and net-zero initiatives.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing HSEQ management systems and sustainability strategies.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to influence and drive change.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
