Position Overview:

We are seeking enthusiastic and committed catering personnel. As a Catering Support Staff member, you will assist in the preparation and serving of meals in an educational setting. Most of our roles in this area are part-time and align with school terms, making them suitable for individuals balancing other commitments.

This position serves as an excellent entry point for those new to the culinary field, providing a chance to learn and grow within the industry. Many of our Catering Support Staff have advanced their skills and taken on greater responsibilities, such as moving up to Assistant Cook roles, and we actively encourage professional development within our team.

BD Group was established by the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham to foster positive economic, environmental, and social transformations. We are a facilities services organization, delivering a variety of services to both public and private sector clients across London and the Southeast, with plans to expand our reach in the future. Our mission is to empower communities to thrive by providing safe, high-quality services tailored to local needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Follow directions from the Cook Supervisor and Assistant Cook.
  • Assist the team in preparing and serving both hot and cold meals and snacks.
  • Organize the dining area for service.
  • Manage post-service clean-up and dishwashing.
  • Handle food storage and preparation using commercial kitchen tools as directed.
  • Uphold the highest standards of kitchen and food hygiene.
  • Utilize knowledge of food safety and allergens to prevent cross-contamination.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • A minimum of Food Hygiene Level 2 certification (or willingness to obtain this) is required, along with an understanding of health and safety protocols, food allergens, and cross-contamination principles.
  • Additional qualifications or experience in the food industry are advantageous.
  • A friendly demeanor and a strong desire to learn, work diligently, and provide excellent service are essential.
  • Ability to use initiative to resolve routine issues and maintain safe working practices is important. Both teamwork and independent working skills are crucial, as is the ability to build positive working relationships and communicate effectively.
  • Proficiency in English is necessary to comprehend and follow written instructions.
  • An enhanced DBS check will be required for this position.

Work Schedule:

  • Part-time, Permanent (20 hours per week), typically from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday to Friday.
