Senior Planner Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Planner to join our UK Build Division in the South. As a Senior Planner, you will play a key role in supporting the management team with the planning and programming of design, procurement, and construction activities associated with our projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain baseline contract programmes, covering all aspects of design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Lead the preparation of construction programmes, highlighting areas of improvement against the contract programme and preparing tender event programmes for subcontractor procurement.
  • Maintain electronic files and administration of planning and programme documents, utilizing the common data environment (CDE).
  • Provide programme information as required to support the management team and use the construction programme to produce project prelim books.
  • Develop 4D graphical models and 2D phasing plans to represent the sequence of build, phasing, and logistics, engaging with the supply chain to develop project programmes.
  • Track and maintain as-built programmes, highlighting deviations from the baseline programme, and input to change requests to advise on programme impacts.
  • Use 4D models and/or 2D phasing information to highlight current progress positions and produce validated output rates with clarifications to track live progress.
Management Responsibilities
  • Report back to the Regional Planner on the current programme position on all projects, reviewing programmes, outputs, and phasing regularly.
  • Carry out Performance Development Plans (PDPs) with assistant planners and drive through actions/activities identified in individual development plans.
  • Lead and coordinate with others in planning and programme management in the preconstruction process and on site.
  • Input to the assessment of programme entitlements under the contract, coordinating outputs with the management team.
  • Lead input to programme reporting weekly and monthly as required and report the programme position at the monthly contract review meeting.
  • Check the quality of planning and programme document production, including site teams and assistant planners.
Experience and Skills
  • Successful track record of working with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders on live construction projects.
  • Experience of working within a team and managing planning teams.
  • Extensive knowledge of UK and EU legal frameworks, particularly contract management.
Qualifications and Training
  • Relevant degree or diploma.
  • Qualifications in construction management.
  • Certification for use of planning and programme software.
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies, where applicable.
  • Advanced Asta Powerproject Training - Progress Analysis & S-curve reporting.
  • Advanced Primavera P6 Training - Managing costs & resources.
  • Managing People Training.
  • Advanced contract awareness - Understanding JCT and NEC forms of contract.
