Rugeley, Staffordshire, United Kingdom Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

This pivotal leadership position is part of the newly established Children and Young People (CYP) Autism service. The organization boasts a well-established group of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) consultants who will provide valuable peer support to the incoming consultant.

In collaboration with the service leaders for the CYP Autism Service, the newly appointed consultant will play a crucial role in the advancement of our specialized Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) service and deliver expert psychiatric care to children and young individuals diagnosed with ASC in the region. The consultant will be accountable for offering highly specialized psychiatric services across three primary domains:

  • Evaluation of intricate cases of potential Autistic Spectrum disorders
  • Expert guidance and support for complex cases involving children and young people with autism diagnoses
  • Administration of medical treatment for issues directly associated with autism diagnoses in challenging cases

This role will encompass comprehensive psychiatric evaluations leading to the formulation of distress; interpretation and professional opinion; and making informed decisions to guide service delivery while providing necessary medical interventions. Additionally, the consultant will offer clinical supervision to less experienced clinical staff within the CYP Autism service who are involved in assessment and intervention.

Key Responsibilities

On a daily basis, the consultant will collaborate closely with the Team Leader and Head of Function, providing medical leadership to the multidisciplinary team.

The consultant will be an integral part of the consultant group within the Mental Health Function of the Children and Families Care Group, which encompasses CAMHS, CAMHS Eating Disorders, and Learning Disability Services.

From a strategic standpoint, the consultant will engage with the Clinical Care Director and Head of Operations within the Children and Families Care Group. The consultant will also liaise with members of other Care Groups, service users, carer groups, and various stakeholders, including local authorities and health education organizations.

Professionally, the consultant will report to the Medical Lead for the Mental Health Function of the Care Group and ultimately to the Medical Director.

All staff within the organization are ultimately accountable to the Chief Executive.
