An exciting opportunity has emerged for an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Compliance Officer to become a key player in a leading biotechnology firm that has recently emerged from Oxford University. This organization is at the forefront of innovation, developing next-generation analytical scientific instruments that are set to transform the industry.

In this pivotal role, you will serve as the primary contact for employees regarding health, safety, and environmental matters. Your main responsibility will be to ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations within the workplace, fostering a secure work environment and promoting a culture of safety and sustainability across all global operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulating and executing health and safety policies and plans.
  • Overseeing existing policies and introducing new ones to guarantee compliance with health, safety, and environmental guidelines.
  • Conducting health and safety orientation for new employees and providing relevant training.
  • Communicating objectives, progress, and achievements to all staff members.
  • Addressing health and safety emergencies, documenting incidents, investigating causes, and recommending corrective measures.
  • Creating and maintaining comprehensive risk assessments and procedures to mitigate occupational hazards.
  • Ensuring that emergency protocols are established and that drills are conducted as necessary.
  • Maintaining a training register and identifying new training needs for staff.
  • Monitoring performance and driving enhancements related to environmental and sustainability initiatives.
  • Identifying and controlling hazards, including but not limited to:
    • Fire and Life Safety
    • Accident and Injury Prevention
    • Emergency Preparedness
    • Ergonomics
    • Industrial Hygiene
  • Performing other duties as reasonably requested by the organization.

Candidate Requirements

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • University Degree or equivalent professional experience

Skills

  • Experience managing health, safety, and environmental functions within manufacturing, engineering, or scientific laboratory environments, with a preference for experience across EU, USA, and APAC regions.
  • Proven ability to lead health and safety and environmental initiatives while influencing stakeholders across various business areas.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the capability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Expertise in creating, managing, and implementing documentation, processes, and procedures in compliance with applicable national standards.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations across different global jurisdictions.
  • Familiarity with UK health, safety, and environmental standards and regulations.
  • Experience in creating and implementing COSHH risk assessments.
