Job Title: Calibration Engineer

AVL Powertrain UK Ltd is seeking a skilled Calibration Engineer to join our team in the United Kingdom (GB). As a Calibration Engineer, you will play a crucial role in developing and managing powertrain calibrations using client and AVL toolsets and processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and manage powertrain calibrations using client and AVL toolsets and processes
  • Define, generate, and manage engine test plans
  • Plan, execute, and analyze engine and system simulation activities
  • Assess system performance, including trade-offs and data analysis
  • Review data and identify powertrain system issues and develop solutions for resolution
  • Model and calibrate systems using toolsets such as Matlab SIMULINK
  • Work with a professional team to generate and present reports, including recommendations and proposals
  • Collaborate with client and AVL teams to deliver project objectives
  • Promote best practice and robust technical solutions using AVL toolsets as appropriate
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field
  • Excellent understanding of diesel internal combustion engine operation and performance
  • Knowledge of ancillary systems, including air path, exhaust aftertreatment technologies, and control
  • Understanding of vehicle architecture and control systems
  • Experience or knowledge of vehicle emissions requirements
  • Good knowledge of simulation systems, particularly Matlab SIMULINK
  • Working knowledge of calibration toolsets and engine calibration, including trade-offs for emissions and performance
  • Excellent analytical skills, able to interpret data and results and present results in a clear and understandable format
  • Strong team player, with good communication and English language skills
  • A self-starter, 'can-do' approach, able to work with other team members at all levels to reach 'win-win' agreements
  • A strong willingness to learn and develop

The roles will typically cover a variety of functions and disciplines, including ICE calibration, powertrain system performance development, data analysis, issue investigation and resolution, system modelling and simulation. Work in new powertrain sectors (battery, fuel cell, etc.) is also a possibility. Some industry or academic experience is preferred, but training will be offered and given to candidates as required.
