Job Summary

The Software Controls Engineer will lead control system design and implementation for complex automated systems in warehouse distribution centers. This role involves developing machine-level control of conveyor systems and material handling equipment technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and configure Fortna Warehouse Control System (FortnaWCS) Software using Beckhoff or Siemens Technology
  • Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineering to define system control requirements
  • Support development and deployment planning activities with project management
  • Perform testing, debugging, and implementation at client sites
  • Oversee software control scope, schedule, and budget delivery
  • Direct project site support resources during deployment and commissioning activities
  • Make modifications and troubleshoot industrial motor controls, I/O, and pneumatic subsystems
  • Develop and maintain documentation for Fortna's Technical Writer
  • Provide training to staff at client sites
  • Respond to client issues with immediacy
  • Provide FortnaWCS control enhancements and requirements to the Software team
  • Make recommendations to improve and streamline the implementation process

Requirements

  • Associate degree and 5+ years of related experience in industrial controls
  • Knowledge of PLCs and control systems
  • Experience working with mechanical and electrical material handling equipment drawings and schematics
  • Experience controlling conveyor systems and associated technologies
  • Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and control software issues
  • Exposure to material handling equipment maintenance routines and requirements
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong detail orientation
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel extensively domestically and internationally

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or related field
