SEMH Teaching Assistant Job Description

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and passionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our client school in Havering. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in creating an environment where every student can thrive academically and personally, regardless of their social, emotional, or mental health challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
  • Implement strategies and interventions to support the social and emotional development of students.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies to address specific needs.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitor and assess the progress of students, providing feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of behavior support plans.
Requirements:
  • Relevant qualifications such as CACHE or NVQ would be a plus but not essential.
  • Proven experience in a similar Teaching Assistant role is advantageous.
  • Empathy and a genuine passion for supporting students with SEMH needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students, and parents.
  • Knowledge of relevant SEMH strategies and interventions.

Please note that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
