Care Support Specialist

Location: Faringdon, Oxfordshire
Working Hours: 36.75 hours per week (15 shifts over a 4-5 week rolling rota available - specific shift count to be confirmed, averaging 36.75 hours weekly). Typical shifts include days from 7:45 AM to 8:00 PM and nights from 7:45 PM to 8:00 AM. Bank hours are also available.
Driver Requirement: While not essential, applicants may need their own vehicle to commute due to the client's home location.
Driving Client's Vehicle: Currently, there is no requirement to drive the client's vehicle, but this may change in the future.
Using Personal Vehicle for Work: Yes (if licensed) for attending training and supervision, which can be conducted virtually.
Essential Experience: Experience with complex medical needs, PEG feeding, and supporting individuals through waking nights.
Desirable Experience: Working with adults who have complex trauma and an interest in therapeutic practices.
Pets: There is one dog that resides within the family home on the same property (adjacent to the client).
Accommodation: Fully adapted family residence available while on duty.
Interview Process: Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis until sufficient applications are received.
Client Overview: Our client is a 24-year-old individual with physical and developmental challenges, living with family in an adapted home. He is entirely dependent on caregivers for all needs and currently utilizes a gastric feeding tube. Communication is achieved through various movements and facial expressions.
The care model involves a 2:1 support ratio, ensuring the client is never left unattended. Each shift lasts twelve and a quarter hours, with support workers collaborating with a colleague. CCTV is installed in the property for safety.
Role Responsibilities:
- Ensure the client's wellbeing at all times.
- Adhere to routines established by the family and participate in discussions to enhance the client's schedule.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Implement any physiotherapy or occupational therapy programs set by professionals or the family.
- Monitor and report any changes in the client's health, functioning, or behavior to the family immediately.
Additional duties may be requested by the family or Case Manager as needed.
All staff members are expected to perform domestic tasks as required, follow house rules, and complete necessary documentation for the client and family. Responsibilities include providing feed, hydration, and medications via the gastric tube, as well as administering personal care.
Support staff should be dynamic, motivated, and creative, aiming to engage the client in daily routines and facilitate therapies and leisure activities in an enjoyable manner. The client thrives in a lively and animated environment.
Compensation and Benefits:
- £16.16 per hour for all shifts, with incremental pay increases.
- Ongoing training and support provided.
- 5.6 weeks of annual leave pro rata.
