We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Geriatrician Consultant to join our team at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Senior Adult Oncology (SAO) team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to complex older patients with cancer.
Key Responsibilities- Consultant Ward Rounds: Lead consultant-led ward rounds to support the management of complex older patients with non-surgical admissions to our inpatient wards, working closely with the multi-disciplinary team and providing direct reviews as required.
- Leadership and Education: Provide leadership, supervision, and education to junior doctors and Advanced Clinical Practitioners on the inpatient wards, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality care.
- Liaison with Oncology Teams: Liaise with the patient's Oncology Team to ensure referred patients are appropriately managed, progressed without delay, and prepared for discharge.
- Outpatient SAO Clinics: Lead consultant-led outpatient SAO clinics to provide and coordinate care for complex older patients with cancer and frailty, with a focus on multimorbidity and polypharmacy.
- Comprehensive Geriatric Assessments: Work within the SAO team to provide multidisciplinary Comprehensive Geriatric Assessments to selected cancer patients with frailty.
- Service Evaluation and Quality Improvement: Contribute to the service evaluation, regular auditing process, and quality improvement as a member of The Christie Medical Staff Committee.
- Clinical Governance: Participate in all aspects of clinical governance, including the development of SOPs, protocols, policies, and standards to ensure they remain in line with evidence-based practice.
- Research and Education: Contribute to research projects and establish new opportunities to expand and develop research within the team, while also participating in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs.
The successful applicant will be a highly skilled and experienced Senior Geriatrician Consultant with a strong interest in Oncology. They will have excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
