About the Role
The University of Essex is seeking a highly skilled Senior Research Officer to join the Brain-Computer Interfaces and Neural Engineering (BCI-NE) laboratory. The successful candidate will work on a three-year fixed-term, full-time basis on the project 'Semantic brain to computer communication'.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and conduct experiments to record neural data while individuals focus on a series of individual concepts.
- Extract information from electroencephalogram (EEG), functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and other physiological signals.
- Develop decoding models, including signal processing and machine learning pipelines, and integrate natural language modelling with neural decoders.
- Work with the project team to explore how neural engineering technology can be used to provide accurate, real-time, decoding of user intention.
Requirements
- PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Brain-Computer Interfaces, Neural Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Neuroscience or a closely related discipline.
- Significant experience in programming and expertise in areas such as signal processing, machine learning, statistical modelling of neural signals and processes.
- Strong publication record as first author in internationally recognized, reputable journals.
- Excellent communication skills.
