Job Overview
The Lead Naval Architect will oversee three primary domains; managing engineering personnel, aiding in the development and validation of technical outputs (including ensuring a secure design), and supporting programs to achieve budgetary and timeline objectives.
As a Lead Naval Architect, you will report to the Engineering Manager at the site and will be assigned to a program where you will be accountable to the Program Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure engineering standards are upheld by the Naval Architect team assigned to your program, facilitating a well-defined and adequately resourced team to meet the expectations of site General Managers and Program Managers.
- Guarantee the implementation of engineering protocols and quality assurance measures within the Program Naval Architect Engineering team.
- Foster a culture of delivery within the Program Naval Architect Engineering team.
- Address Naval Architect challenges within your Program by engaging in technical discussions with other leads. If a resolution is not reached, escalate the issue to the Program Engineering Manager.
- Serve as the primary communication conduit to the Program Engineering Manager on a daily basis, during program design and safety evaluations, and present engineering program updates.
- Identify Program Assumptions, Risks, and Issues.
- Lead technical discussions and present engineering solutions to clients, from initial concept through to detailed design and production.
- Ensure compliance with all quality, safety, and environmental standards and procedures set by the company.
- Encourage ongoing professional development opportunities.
- Maintain your own professional development and expertise.
- Ensure accurate Configuration Management of all Design Documentation.
- Recognize Intellectual Property and take necessary measures to protect the company's intellectual assets.
- Adhere to security and confidentiality protocols as mandated by client organizations.
- Mentor and develop team members for their career advancement.
- Assist in the recruitment of Naval Architects to align with growth strategies.
- Provide engineering insights to Bid Managers for Bid responses.
- Support the Technical Authority in conducting Engineering Reviews when requested by the Engineering Manager (Governance).
- Contribute to Lessons Learned sessions from each Program and enhancements in Engineering Policies and Processes.
Required Qualifications
- Formal qualification in Engineering; Electrical Engineering, Marine or Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or equivalent.
- Extensive experience in the marine sector (Oil & Gas, Renewables, Commercial, Cruise & Ferry, Defence), with relevant design code expertise.
- Familiarity with procurement and design methodologies (engaging with suppliers, preparing bid documentation, reviewing and approving technical outputs).
- Experience in developing Engineering Design processes.
- Proficient in MS Office (Outlook / Word / Excel) and Engineering Design Software.
- Valid Driving Licence.
- Willingness to work on short notice or outside of standard hours as required by tasks.
- Ideally, possess or be willing to undergo training in:
- MEWP operation,
- Working at Height,
- Confined Space.
