Junior Analyst in Credit Research

Position Overview

The primary objective of this role is to perform comprehensive evaluations of the designated portfolio, which includes Housing Associations and various public sector organizations. The findings must be effectively communicated to colleagues in Portfolio Management to ensure that PIC is leveraging the full spectrum of appealing investment opportunities.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Assume responsibility for maintaining current credit assessments on all borrowers and significant potential borrowers within your sector, ensuring that our investment perspectives are regularly updated.
  • Draft credit rating assessments that clearly convey your insights on creditworthiness, suitable for various key stakeholders. This will involve concise summaries for committees, supplemented by more detailed analyses for first-line colleagues.
  • Collaborate effectively with portfolio management, trading, and asset/liability teams to facilitate informed investment decisions. Given that PIC operates with a singular portfolio, integration is essential.
  • Conduct research to ensure that the ESG factors associated with the investments in your portfolio are considered, and that ESG ratings are current for each transaction.
  • Take initiative in personal development, focusing on both technical skills (such as data analysis and critical thinking) and non-technical skills (including self-awareness and relationship management) relevant to Public Credit.
  • Demonstrate proactivity in private debt investments by providing timely credit research insights or internal ratings as required.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, market changes, regulatory updates in both public and private sectors, and best practices in Credit Research by participating in industry seminars, reading, and sharing pertinent articles.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Experience, Skills, and Abilities (Technical Competencies)

  • Familiarity with credit rating methodologies.
  • Understanding of Public Finance and its various sub-sectors.
  • Solid knowledge of financial reporting and key rating indicators.
  • Awareness of rating agency methodologies to anticipate potential rating adjustments.
  • Possession of a recognized qualification or accreditation from a relevant professional body; CFA designation is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing credit research insights to fund managers within your sectors.
  • Experience working across different sectors is advantageous.
  • Proven ability to deliver analysis that is concise, accurate, well-structured, and timely.
  • Experience in an investment environment is beneficial.
