Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated therapy support specialist to become a vital part of our dynamic Outpatient Musculoskeletal therapy team.

This role primarily involves assisting in various group exercise sessions, providing patients with verbal support and guidance.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for evaluating patients facing mobility challenges, overseeing and enhancing personalized exercise plans for individuals with prevalent conditions, maintaining cleanliness within the department, and executing electronic administrative tasks—all under the supervision of licensed therapists.

At South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust, our Physiotherapy department is a large and progressive unit, rich in therapeutic knowledge and expertise.

Our team operates a '7 day' service, and the successful candidate will occasionally support therapy staff in inpatient settings during weekends.

Key Responsibilities

Assist the Physiotherapist in delivering high-quality therapy services across community, outpatient, and inpatient environments.

Conduct assessments, provide treatment, and advance patient care either individually or in groups, following protocols established by Senior Physiotherapists.

Job Duties

Perform basic physiotherapeutic evaluations as directed by Physiotherapists, utilizing observation, questioning, and measurement techniques to assess patient needs.

Design and implement individualized treatment plans in accordance with guidelines established by physiotherapists.

Manage your own caseload within a specified service area, occasionally working independently with support available via communication devices.

Ensure the safe and proficient use of all therapy equipment and patient aids, maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Conduct clerical tasks as assigned by Physiotherapists.

Clinical Responsibilities

Obtain informed consent for treatment in line with Trust policy, often requiring effective communication with patients who may have complex emotional or physical conditions.

Perform basic physiotherapy assessments to gather relevant clinical information.

Develop and execute treatment programs based on guidelines from qualified physiotherapists, including patient education and exercise regimens.

Monitor patient progress, reassess, and modify treatment plans as necessary, with guidance available from qualified Physiotherapists.

Maintain accurate physiotherapy records and adhere to professional, legal, and departmental standards.

Weekend Responsibilities

Participate actively in the weekend working schedule, assisting Physiotherapists as needed.

Maintain competency to practice as part of the weekend team.

Management Duties

Work in accordance with Trust policies and guidelines from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists, ensuring high standards of practice.

Foster a positive work environment by setting a high standard for personal performance and encouraging colleagues to do the same.

Contribute to the development of clinical guidelines, education, and quality improvement initiatives.

Collect relevant activity and clinical data as required.

Supervise other team members as necessary, maintaining high morale and effective staff relations.

Contribute to maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Educational Development

Engage in continuous professional development and training opportunities.

Work towards achieving the Care Certificate and maintain a personal development portfolio.

Participate in in-service training programs and external courses as applicable.

Communication and Teamwork

Communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, and colleagues to maximize rehabilitation outcomes.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care.

Provide formal handovers to ensure effective communication among team members.
