Position Summary
We are looking for a detail-oriented and committed Financial Assistant to become a vital part of our finance team on a full-time basis at Highland Coast Hotels. Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, this position offers a unique chance to contribute to the financial management of our diverse hotel portfolio. As a key member of our finance department, you will be instrumental in ensuring the effective handling of financial processes and procedures across our hotels.
This role is designed to be remote/home-based, with the ideal candidate residing in the Highlands, as occasional travel to our hotels may be necessary. A valid driving license is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Processing and Record Management: Oversee the company’s purchase ledger, process invoices, upload bank statements, and update BACS receipts.
- Account Reconciliation: Regularly perform reconciliations of bank accounts and balance sheet items.
- Expense Oversight: Manage expenses, petty cash transactions, and track oil, gas, and mileage for each property.
- Financial Reporting and Analysis: Prepare month-end financial reports, sustainability reports, and assist with VAT returns and journal entries.
- Payroll Assistance: Support the preparation of monthly payroll, process gratuity payments, and maintain records related to staff accommodation.
- Compliance and Audit Support: Ensure adherence to internal controls, prepare documentation for audits, and maintain organized financial records.
- Support and Communication: Address queries from hotel staff and collaborate with various departments to resolve financial issues.
- Additional Duties: Undertake ad-hoc tasks and assist with special projects aimed at enhancing financial processes.
Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a motivated and detail-focused individual with a passion for finance and hospitality, having experience as an Assistant Accountant or in a similar financial role. Essential Qualifications:
- Experience in a similar role is essential, with an HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional certification is desirable.
- Proficiency in accounting software, Microsoft Excel, and financial management tools.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to analyze financial data.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and financial software, with a focus on accuracy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for liaising with internal stakeholders and hotel teams.
- Proactive in identifying and resolving discrepancies, with the ability to adapt to changing processes.
- Commitment to ethical standards and confidentiality.
- Flexibility to work remotely and travel to hotels in the North Highlands as needed.
- A positive attitude and a collaborative approach to teamwork, contributing to the success of our finance department and hotel portfolio.
